It’s now clear to me what you’re telling yourself…. Camping looks like a lot of fun, but I have no
idea where to start or what to pack. Before you can figure out what you need to do to be ready for
your camping trip, you must first identify a few things. You’ll be able to find your bearings by
answering the following simple questions.
You’ve decided to go camping, but what kind of camping? Would you be interested in RV camping?
An RV or campervan park? What about a tent camping trip? No, I don’t think so. Camp for canoes
and kayaks?
Knowing what kind of camping you want to do might help you choose what gear and knowledge
you’ll need. As an example, you’d need quite a bit more kit for RV camping than you would for
hiking.
The following are some descriptions of what it’s like to go
Because you bring a fully-furnished vehicle with you, RV camping is the closest thing you’ll get to
home away from home. You can personalize your RV to your heart’s content. A recreational vehicle
is a great way to bring everything you need from home on the road. All that’s left to consider is what
food and personal goods you’d like to include in the supply kit. People who don’t want to «rough it»
but yet want to meet new people can opt for this style of camping, where RVs are clustered together
or in comparable sections. Despite the fact that RVs require some routine maintenance, they are
primarily used for temporary storage.
It’s just a little more rough-and-tumble than RV camping. Unlike most RVs, many campers and
trailers lack facilities like showers and toilets. A refrigerator may or may not be incorporated in the
camper or trailer. As a general rule, folks who don’t like sleeping on the ground or are concerned
about bad weather prefer to camp in a camper or trailer.
As a general rule, tent camping is best suited for those who like to «rough it.» Camping in a tent
necessitates planning ahead of time for all of your essentials (food, hygiene, restroom requirements,
shelter, seeing at night, warmth). Tent camping, too, comes in a variety of flavors. A tent and
supplies are preferred by some, while others prefer to camp in secluded regions far from
civilization. Considering everything you might need when packing for a tent camping trip can take a
long time.
Experienced campers should opt for backpacking or hiking instead of car camping. Remember,
anything you plan to bring must be portable enough for you to carry on your back for an extended
period of time. If you want to travel light, you must be able to pack efficiently.
Packing for canoe/kayak camping is similar to trekking, but there is an additional consideration. All
of your belongings must be watertight. Camping in a canoe or kayak is best left to the more
experienced camper and, of course, those who are already familiar with the watercraft.
Recommendations for outdoor activities such as camping:
Make sure you do your homework before purchasing an RV for RV camping. Have a discussion
with those who have already purchased one, and elicit what they like and dislike about it. Visit as
many RV dealerships as you can and take a look around. If you’ve never camped in an RV before,
consider renting one for a few days to see if you like it or not.
Camping with a camper or trailer requires more planning and preparation because there may be
fewer conveniences, such as a refrigerator. Keep your food and beverages cool by purchasing one or
more coolers. Also, if you plan to use electrical appliances, you may need a generator. Even if the
camper has beds, you may need to provide your own bedding.
Think about what kind of tent camping you’d like to do before you get started. Is a lightweight tent
a requirement? Waterproof? Is the wind strong enough? Do I need a family-sized tent or a smaller
one for my own personal use? Where am I going to set up my tent? Camping tents can make or
break a trip, so make sure you choose wisely.
As a backpacker or hiker, you will need to carry all of your supplies, so look for light-weight
options. Investing in lower weight, more durable hiking backpacks might be a worthwhile
investment. Before setting out on a trek or camping trip, be sure to confirm that the location in
question allows such activities. Don’t ignore or disregard «no trespassing» notices. Be sure to check
the forecast before venturing outside! You need to know what weather-related equipment to bring.
In addition, camping with a companion is highly suggested. Ideally, there should be a person who
can receive help in the event of a problem developing.
In order to attempt a canoe or kayak camping trip, you should first take canoe or kayak training (in
addition to swimming instruction). Rental canoes and kayaks are a good option if you’re not sure if
you’ll enjoy the experience before you dive in.
2. Where are you going to go camping this weekend? Are you planning on spending the night out in
the desert? Beach? Forest/woods?
If you want to determine what your most pressing demands are, you must first answer this question.
Camping in the desert is significantly different than camping in the woods.
Temperatures in the desert can fluctuate greatly throughout the day and night. The heat and thirst
are the main dangers of the desert year-round. It is critical that you use sunscreen and stay hydrated
while outdoors. It’s hard to tell how much perspiration you’ve shed because the air is so dry that it
evaporates swiftly from your skin.
Camping on the beach is a lot of fun, but you have to be prepared. Tent stakes won’t work because
of the sandy quality of the ground. For this purpose, there are tent stakes that are significantly
longer. You must also be prepared for the chance that sand will find its way into your possessions.
The vehicle you choose to go to the beach will depend on how far you want to go in the sand. If
you’ve dug yourself too deep into the sand, getting yourself out may be challenging. An old shovel
or piece of wood could come in handy.
A forest or woodlands is a good place to seek refuge from the sun and rain. However, you must be
wary of biting insects and certain itchy plants if you plan to use them in hammocks. If you’re going
to be spending the night in the woods, bring plenty of bug spray.
3. When are you planning to go camping and at what time of year?
The key to a successful camping trip is knowing what to expect from the weather. Planning a
camping trip requires a lot of details, and I believe that this is the most critical. Of course, if you’re
traveling in an RV, none of this information applies to you.
Even if you’re camping in a tent, a warm camping sleeping bag may be a good investment, no
matter what form of shelter you’re employing.
Camping in wet weather means that the terrain you’ll be traversing may be more challenging. It’s a
good idea to throw down a tarp under your tent, set up camp on higher ground, and always use your
rain flies while camping in a tent.
Always remember to stay hydrated, especially if the temperature is rising. Bring plenty of water if
you’re bringing your own. Water treatment or a camping water filter may be necessary if you plan to
go trekking or camping.
First of all, thank you for taking the first step toward camping by completing these questions.
Planning a decathlon camping trip that is more personalized to your individual needs and preferences has now
